چکیده

Numerical modeling is a very useful tool in different fields of bridge engineering, such as load-carrying capacity assessment or structural health monitoring. Developing reliable computational model that accurately represents the actual mechanical behavior entails advanced FEM-based complemented by comprehensive experimental campaign provides necessary supporting information and allows validating simulation outcomes. This paper proposes unified approach aimed at characterization FE updating aging steel bridges. It first involves realization an extensive bridge's geometrical, material, dynamic characterization. Then, calibration framework developed, where deterministic (optimization) probabilistic (Bayesian inference) approaches are employed, techniques global variance-based sensitivity analysis Kriging-based surrogate further implemented order to enhance identification process reduce overall burden. The methodology has been validated historical riveted O Barqueiro, north Galicia, Spain. results show good agreement identified parameter values noticeable correlation between numerical modal properties, with average relative error frequencies 0.34% 0.44% for MAC (Modal Assurance Criterion) ratio 0.96.

SHM-Based Probabilistic Fatigue Life Prediction for Bridges Based on FE Model Updating

Fatigue life prediction for a bridge should be based on the current condition of the bridge, and various sources of uncertainty, such as material properties, anticipated vehicle loads and environmental conditions, make the prediction very challenging. This paper presents a new approach for probabilistic fatigue life prediction for bridges using finite element (FE) model updating based on struct...

Bridges between deterministic and probabilistic models for binary data

For the analysis of binary data, various deterministic models have been proposed, which are generally simpler to fit and easier to understand than probabilistic models. We claim that corresponding to any deterministic model is an implicit stochastic model in which the deterministic model fits imperfectly, with errors occurring at random. In the context of binary data, we consider a model in whi...

Probabilistic Fatigue Life Updating for Railway Bridges Based on Local Inspection and Repair

Railway bridges are exposed to repeated train loads, which may cause fatigue failure. As critical links in a transportation network, railway bridges are expected to survive for a target period of time, but sometimes they fail earlier than expected. To guarantee the target bridge life, bridge maintenance activities such as local inspection and repair should be undertaken properly. However, this ...

Management of Aging Aircraft using Deterministic and Probabilistic Metrics -

Aging aircraft can be effectively managed by a combination of deterministic and probabilistic metrics. The deterministic metric provides a damage index for each aircraft relative to the full-scale test. This indexing method based on crack initiation or crack growth, may not be singly sufficient to support fleet management decisions at a time when the fleet is aging. To ensure safety of fleet, a...
